Collaborating with the graphic novelist power couple, Comfort and Adam, was an extremely wonderful experience. For this project, I had to create a guest background character for their comic series, “The Uniques”. Diyana Badar isn’t your typical cat themed femme fatale super heroine, she’s modest and stylish, a healer and a diplomat who’s loyal to her sisters.

As a child of middle eastern descent, I wanted to create a superhero that represented part of my ethnicity. Her and her sisters are inspired by different parts of the Middle East, Diyana’s design being inspired by Lebanon. While researching for the designs of the characters, I mailed back and forth with the artist couple as well as with a Lebanese writer and friend, Cher, who’s currently living in Beirut, and is greatly in touch with the customs, history and culture.
